Our story
Reimagining travel when the world stool still
When Covid-19 brought global travel to a halt in 2020, our founders, seasoned tourism professionals with over 100 years of combined experience, saw an opportunity to reimagine what travel could be.
Dawn to Dusk Safaris was born from a simple conviction:
The best journeys prioritize authentic storytelling, sustainable exploration, and genuine human connection over rushed itineraries and cookie-cutter experiences.
Our name says it all. “Dawn to Dusk” symbolizes our commitment to being with you through every phase of your adventure, from your first African sunrise to your final sunset, and every golden moment in between.
Our partnership with The Strandloper Project
At Dawn to Dusk Safaris, we believe the most meaningful journeys are the ones that give back to the places we love. As part of our commitment to sustainable tourism, we are proud to partner with The Strandloper Project, a dedicated initiative working to protect South Africa’s coastline and the marine life that depends on it.
Their mission is simple but powerful: to clear our beaches of microplastic pollution, discarded fishing gear, and general litter, in order to conserve and protect our threatened marine life.
Through this partnership, our Garden Route guests are invited to experience the Swartvlei Coastal Conservation Walk, a guided outing along the striking shoreline of Gerrickes Point. Walking alongside our guides and the Strandloper team, guests gain insight into the local marine ecosystem, take part in light hands-on conservation, and explore the rock pools where the intertidal world comes to life.
It is a celebration of the Garden Route’s natural beauty and a reminder of the responsibility we all share in protecting it. Because for us, every journey from dawn to dusk is also a journey with purpose.

Jo
Growing up on a cattle farm in Namibia shaped both my life and my career. My parents instilled in me a respect for people and a strong work ethic. Namibia will always hold a special place in my heart, with its wide-open landscapes and incredible wildlife.
After school I moved to Cape Town. The scenery changed dramatically, but my passion for solving problems did not. I have always enjoyed structure, planning, logistics, and numbers, and while I can operate in the spotlight, I find real fulfilment behind the scenes.
My journey into travel began in 2002, almost entirely by chance. What started as an unexpected opportunity quickly became a career that felt like home. Every itinerary is different, every traveller has unique expectations, and every day brings new challenges. That is exactly what keeps me motivated.
Travel is about creating memories, celebrating milestones, and seeing the world through fresh eyes. Being part of that, even from behind the scenes, is something I never take for granted.
Dehan
Travel has never just been a career for me, it has been a way of life.
Growing up with a father who has been a tour operator for more than 30 years meant our family holidays were spent on lodge inspections and exploring Africa’s wilderness. My love for the bush began when my dad developed Shelati Lodge on the edge of the Manyeleti Game Reserve. Since then I have been fortunate to experience destinations from the Serengeti to Botswana, Namibia, and Mozambique, and even the Arctic to see polar bears.
I studied Marketing Management and completed my Honours in Tourism Management at the University of Pretoria, then spent time farming in Namibia near Etosha National Park before joining African Synergy, representing luxury African tourism products across the United States, Europe, and Australia.
Today I am part of the Sales and Marketing team at Dawn to Dusk Safaris, where building strong relationships with our agents and tour operators is at the heart of what I do.
When I am not working as Sales and Marketing Manager for Dawn to Dusk, I like to indulge in hobbies such as birding, golfing, running, tennis and fly fishing.
Tasmyn "Taz" Perrins
My love for the bush started young. We visited Kruger National Park often, and my parents joke it was the only place I never cried as a baby. We also owned a game farm, which became my favourite place to spend weekends and where my appreciation for wildlife took root.
That connection led to some incredible experiences across Southern Africa. I ran a remote campsite along the Caprivi Strip, volunteered in endangered species conservation in Namibia, and managed a mobile glamping business in Botswana for four years, with many close encounters with lions, leopards, elephants, hippos and wild dogs along the way.
I’m now based in Sedgefield as Operational Manager for the Dawn to Dusk Hub, where I’m often the first point of contact for Garden Route bookings, coordinating guides, planning itineraries and keeping every experience running seamlessly.
Keith
My connection to nature was rooted in me from a young age. I grew up deep in the Knysna Forest, about an hour’s drive north of town, surrounded by towering indigenous trees and no cellphone reception.
Life was peaceful and simple. I spent afternoons on the farm with friends, playing outside and getting my hands dirty. At six years old, running through the forest, I had no idea what that upbringing would give me. I was like a Yellowwood sapling, quietly putting down roots.
Looking back, I realize how privileged I was. A free, nature-filled childhood is rare today. I wasn’t connected to the internet, but I was deeply connected to myself.
I still approach natural spaces with the wonder of a child. Nature teaches me about myself, and I turn to it constantly for healing, both physical and spiritual.
As a guide, my purpose is to share that experience with others.
